The Conflict of our Motivation

The Conflict of our Motivation

MOTIVATION: Why do we follow Jesus?
We are driven to imitate the same grace that Jesus showed us.

Moving from Religion to Grace

Part 3 of our Motivation

  1. Commencement: Christianity isn't about rules..
    1. Lawbreaker: Jesus did not come to establish rules, he came to make them obolete.
    2. Freedom: By freeing us up from the brokenness of the law, Jesus modeled a new way to live.
    3. Heart-change: Instead of external guidelines and motivators, Jesus transforms life from the inside out.
  2. Cultivation: Jesus didn’t start a religion.
    1. Judaism: Christianity is entirely founded on Judaism, but it destroyed how leaders believed it was to function.
    2. Rebellion: When Jesus clashed with Judaism He didn’t establish a new religion but a new way to live without it.
    3. Grassroots: True change can only happen from the bottom up and from the inside out, not top down.
  3. Conflict: Following Jesus is the exact opposite to legalism.
    1. Counter-productive: Legalism is not only the enemy of the Gospel but living in legalism destroys the power of the Gospel.
    2. Change: We can only operate out of grace once we put to death our to-do lists.
    3. Grace: As Jesus transforms our hearts, we operate out of desire instead of duty and our will becomes more  like God’s.
  4. Culmination: Jesus demonstrated a new way to live.
    1. Wholistic: Jesus did not just incarnate, die and rise from the dead.
    2. Life: Jesus mission was taught and modelled, for us to by means of Jesus.
    3. Example: Fundamentally the purpose of Jesus’ ministry was for us to copy Him.
