MOTIVATION: Why do we follow Jesus?
We are driven to imitate the same grace that Jesus showed us.
Moving from Religion to Grace
Part 3 of our Motivation
- Commencement: Christianity isn't about rules..
- Lawbreaker: Jesus did not come to establish rules, he came to make them obolete.
- Freedom: By freeing us up from the brokenness of the law, Jesus modeled a new way to live.
- Heart-change: Instead of external guidelines and motivators, Jesus transforms life from the inside out.
- Cultivation: Jesus didn’t start a religion.
- Judaism: Christianity is entirely founded on Judaism, but it destroyed how leaders believed it was to function.
- Rebellion: When Jesus clashed with Judaism He didn’t establish a new religion but a new way to live without it.
- Grassroots: True change can only happen from the bottom up and from the inside out, not top down.
- Conflict: Following Jesus is the exact opposite to legalism.
- Counter-productive: Legalism is not only the enemy of the Gospel but living in legalism destroys the power of the Gospel.
- Change: We can only operate out of grace once we put to death our to-do lists.
- Grace: As Jesus transforms our hearts, we operate out of desire instead of duty and our will becomes more like God’s.
- Culmination: Jesus demonstrated a new way to live.
- Wholistic: Jesus did not just incarnate, die and rise from the dead.
- Life: Jesus mission was taught and modelled, for us to by means of Jesus.
- Example: Fundamentally the purpose of Jesus’ ministry was for us to copy Him.
